Annapolis, Maryland January 23 2005. Yesterday in a day painted by a white and intense snowstorm the first Hispanic Republican Convention of Maryland was celebrated in the Lowes Hotel of this capital. The event shone in all its splendor and many different political personalities from the state and national arena concurred.

The Cuban Movement for a Unified Democracy represented by their president Eng. Caesar L. Alarcón and the La Junta Patriótica Cubana of Maryland represented equally by their president Dr. Luis E. Queral took advantage of the occasion to meet with the Governor of Maryland Robert Ehrlich Jr. in search of support and recognition for the "Assembly to promote the Civil Society in Cuba".

During the encounter both activists of human rights widely depicted to the Governor of Maryland the objectives that our opposition in Cuba pursues with this significant event. They explained the reason for the celebration on May 20 2005, which coincides with the anniversary of our Republic where it will be a competing event that will gather diverse opinions of the different organizations (more than three hundred), which illegally work in the island trying to find opportunities for the establishment of a lawful state.

The Governor Ehrlich knows the present situation in Cuba and already has given concrete examples of support to our cause of freedom and Human Rights, as when finding out that the ship Pride of Baltimore II was heading to Cuba in search of commercial interchange with the dictatorship of the island, he issued the order to alter its course preventing such an offensive action.

Bob Governor Ehrlich Jr. expressed his total support to the "Assembly to promote the Civil Society in Cuba", wishing it’s possible accomplishment and he asked for the activists Alarcón and Queral to extend his message of personal congratulation to the brave opponents Martha Beatriz Roque, René Gomez Manzano and Felix Bonne Carcasses and the other defenders of Human Rights for such brave and honest initiative.

The Governor Ehrlich was interested in continuing to receive information referring to the event and in contributing with his support to such noble directed cause to manage the objective to give back to the people of Cuba their most elemental rights.

ACTIVISTAS CUBANOS PROMUEVEN ASAMBLEA DE LA SOCIEDAD CIVIL EN CUBA

Annapolis, Maryland 23 de Enero 2005. En el día de ayer y matizada por una blanca e intensa nevada se celebró en el Hotel Lowes de esta capital la primera Convención Republicana Hispana de Maryland, evento que brilló en todo su esplendor y al que concurrieron diferentes personalidades políticas del ámbito estatal y nacional.

El Movimiento Cubano Unidad Democrática representado por su presidente el Ing. César L. Alarcón y La Junta Patriótica Cubana de Maryland representada igualmente por su presidente el Dr. Luis E. Queral aprovecharon la ocasión para sostener un encuentro con el Gobernador del Estado Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. en busca de apoyo y reconocimiento a la “Asamblea para promover la Sociedad Civil en Cuba”.

Durante el encuentro ambos activistas de derechos humanos le expusieron al Gobernador de Maryland ampliamente los objetivos que persigue nuestra oposición en Cuba con este significativo evento. Le explicaron el motivo de su celebración el día 20 de Mayo del 2005 coincidiendo con el aniversario de nuestra República y que será un evento opositor que recogerá opiniones diversas de las distintas organizaciones (más de trescientas) que de forma ilegal trabajan en la isla tratando de buscar espacios para el establecimiento de un estado de derecho.

El Gobernador Ehrlich conoce la actual situación en Cuba y ha dado muestras concretas de apoyo a nuestra causa de Libertad y Derechos Humanos, como en la ocasión que al enterarse que el barco Pride of Baltimore II se dirigía a Cuba en busca de intercambio comercial con la dictadura de la isla dio la orden de desviarle su ruta impidiendo que se gestará tan ofensiva acción.

El Gobernador Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. expresó su apoyo total a la “Asamblea para promover la Sociedad Civil en Cuba”, deseándole su posible realización y le solicitó a los activistas Alarcón y Queral que a través de ellos les extendiera un mensaje de felicitación personal a los valientes opositores Martha Beatriz Roque, René Gómez Manzano y Félix Bonne Carcasses y demás defensores de Derechos Humanos por tan valiente y honesta iniciativa.

El Gobernador Ehrlich se mostró interesado en continuar recibiendo información referente al evento y en contribuir con su apoyo a tan noble causa encaminada a lograr el objetivo de devolverle al pueblo de Cuba sus derechos más elementales.
